The Dolphin Class International Forest of Support

. For Tu B'Shevat our class traced their bodies and cut them out in order to make an forest in our classroom. Some of us are the tree trunks while others are the branches. We then printed pictures we received from children holding fruit native to their country. Some examples are Carobs from Parpar Kindergarten in Akko, Israel, bananas from a Kindergarten in Turkey, papaya and mango from Children in Ghana, and Pomegranates from children in Thailand. > Additionally, the pre-k Dolphin Class of Austin, Texas wanted to show their support of our fellow Jewish communities in France by learning the names of the Tu B'Shevat fruits in English, Hebrew and French. They also painted their own American, Israeli and French flags to show their dedication. > Throughout the process of this project the Dolphin Class children learned a lot, not only about the importance of trees for the environment, but about importance of being part of a broader community across the world. They learned to see the world as a tree with human beings as its fruit. They learned that the trees provide air for us to breathe and made the connection that we share breath with people across the earth because of the trees. לכבוד טו בשבט ציירנו את קווי המתאר של הילדים על גבי ניירות חומים וירוקים . הילדים שקווי המתאר שלהם צוירו על גבי הנייר החום הפכו לגזעי העצים והירוקים הפכו לנוף העצים לאחר מכן הדפסנו תמונות של ילדים המחזיקים פירות הגדלים בארצות השונות כמו: חרוב מילדי גן פרפר בעכו-ישראל, בננות מילדים בטורקיה, פפאיה ומנגו מילדי גאנה ורימונים מילדי תאילנד . בנוסף רצו ילדי כיתת הדולפינים להראות את תמיכתם בקהילה היהודית בצרפת ע"י לימוד שמות הפירות באנגלית, עברית וצרפתית וציור דגלי ארה"ב, ישראל וצרפת. במהלך כל הפרויקט למדו הילדים המון ולא רק על חשיבות העצים לסביבה. הם למדו גם על החשיבות של ההשתייכות לקהילה הרחבה של ילדי העולם! הם למדו לראות את העולם כעץ ואת הגזע האנושי כפירות העץ. הם למדו שהעצים מספקים לנו חמצן לנשימה ואנו חולקים את האוויר לנשימה עם האנשים בכל העולם הם גם אמרו שמכיוון שלעצים יש שורשים הנטועים באדמה, והאדמה היא חלק מכדור הארץ, הרי שגם זו דרך שבה בני האדם מחוברים זה לזה בידידות סטפני לין המחנכת של כיתת הדולפינים במרכז היהודי באוסטין טקסס
